The story comes off the pages from the beginning to end, pulling at every heart string as you feel yourself being in Nate's helpless position. Growing up in the notorious Irish Channel of New Orleans, Louisiana, his entire life was surrounded by poverty, prostitution, drugs & alcohol which made Nate a product of his environment.

After The Storm is based on a true story about the life of an addict in recovery who must break out of prison to survive Hurricane Katrina. Days without nourishment waiting for rescue on a rooftop, held under armed guard on a crowded interstate bridge, and finally evacuated to a dangerous prison yard begin his journey back to the family he left during his imprisonment.
Nate pays his debt to society, struggles to win the approval of his son and to regain his marriage. Nate finds that recovery is difficult and that his addiction has cost him much as he strives to maintain the changes he has made and adjust to his life, After the Storm.
